SharePoint
Microsoft SharePoint enables companies to easily develop robust and highly customizable portals to connect individuals and teams. Such portals allow for the efficient exchange of information across vertical, horizontal and geographical boundaries within an organization. The Microsoft SharePoint software suite consists of the Sharepoint Portal Server and Sharepoint Services.
SharePoint Portal Server is an enterprise solution that consolidates information from disparate systems into a coherent portal where it can be accessed by single sign-on and enterprise integration technologies. The portal facilitates end-to-end collaboration by enabling aggregation, organization, and search capabilities for people, teams, and information.
Portal Server uses Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2003 sites to create portal pages for organizations. The portal also extends the capabilities of Microsoft Windows® SharePoint Services sites with organization and management tools, and enables teams to publish information in their sites to the entire organization. SharePoint Services is a component of the Windows Server 2003 Operating System and provides collaboration services to applications such as Microsoft Office.
